Dewlay Cheesemakers can yet again claim top spot as the world’s BEST Lancashire Cheesemaker as it scooped up top awards at this year’s International Cheese and Dairy Awards.

Winning Gold for its Crumbly, Creamy and Tasty Lancashire Cheese in both the traditional class and block class, Dewlay then went on to pick up top trophies for best in class.

With thousands of cheeses entered from across the world, the top cheese from each class is then pitted against each other to make their way to the top table.

Dewlay’s Tasty Lancashire was crowned Champion Lancashire Cheese, seeing off competition from other Lancashire’s before being named Champion Territorial Cheese beating Double Gloucester’s, Red Leicester’s, and Wensleydale cheeses.

After hours of judging, the Tasty Lancashire then went on to win the coveted Reserve Supreme Champion.

“Winning Reserve Champion is such a high accolade; it has beaten thousands of cheeses to be named in the top two. Not only does it put Lancashire cheese on the world map, but it highlights the quality of what our cheesemakers produce here at Dewlay, day in, day out,” said Laura Barnes, technical manager at Dewlay Cheesemakers.

“In total we won eight trophies. This is a huge achievement and again is testament to the work of our cheesemakers.”

It wasn’t just Dewlay’s Tasty Lancashire that was successful, the Crumbly Lancashire won Gold and Dewlay’s Creamy Lancashire won Gold and Best Traditional Cheese.

And with years of expertise, Dewlay also took home the trophy for Best Dressed Cheese, which is awarded to the best presented cheese in the show.

“We know we have a wealth of experience in our dairy, but these awards solidify that. We cannot wait to bring the trophies back to Lancashire Cheese HQ and get them on display in our Cheese Shop!” added Laura.

And to celebrate Dewlay’s Tasty Lancashire winning Reserve Champion, the Cheese Shop is now offering 10% off all Tasty Lancashire purchased in July, direct from The Cheese Shop at Dewlay.
