Dewlay Cheesemakers has scooped the top cheese award at this year’s Great Yorkshire Show.
Winning the Supreme Champion Cheese for its Creamy Lancashire Cheese, it soared through the classes to then be judged against other best in class cheese before winning Supreme — an amazing accolade for a Lancashire cheese in Yorkshire.
Speaking to BBC Radio Lancashire after the win, Managing Director Nick Kenyon says, “We crossed the border and came back victorious!”
“Our Creamy Lancashire won within its own class to then be placed on the Top Table, winning amongst a diverse class of cheese, all best in their individual classes,” Nick added.
The judges commented that the cheese was a “great example of a traditional Creamy Lancashire, with good buttery texture, smooth and silky.”
Producing traditional Lancashire cheese for over 65 years, Dewlay prides itself on producing consistent, high quality cheese, which is testament to the knowledge, experience and passion of its cheesemakers.
“Not only that,” Nick adds “it just goes to show their hard work has paid off, from the farmers who supply us with quality milk to all those who work hard throughout the whole company.”
This year the award for Supreme Champion trophy was also named The Judy Bell MBE Memorial Trophy, in memory of a stalwart of the cheesemaking industry.
