By working with local farmers we now source our milk direct from the farm.
It is important to us to show our commitment to the local area. As cheese makers with a passion for our product, it is also important for us to know exactly where our milk comes from.
We know the land the cows are grazed on and the farmers who supply the milk.
This part of low land Lancashire is some of the best milk producing pastureland in the country. The land is close to the coast and is rich in minerals, salts and beneficial trace elements.
All farmers have carefully chosen for the quality of their milk with good protein and butterfat levels, therefore helping us to produce cheese of a superior quality and taste.
But it is not just about the provenance and the quality of the milk, each farmer that supplies us with milk has a son that is willing and eager to carry on the family business.
It's the same here at Dewlay; we are a third generation family business. This union transcends contracts and supply, it is about two generations of families working together to secure the future.
