Dewlay’s Cheese Shop & Viewing Gallery – Now Open!

Dewlay  – the cheesemakers of Garstang – have opened a truly unique facility at their dairy in Garstang. “The Cheese Shop at Dewlay” – the only one of its kind in Lancashire  - is a dedicated cheese shop with a gallery and viewing platform and promises to attract visitors not just from the immediate area but also from further afield. It will be open to individuals and groups alike and makes an ideal day trip for anyone looking for something a little different to do.  For groups of 15 and over, a guided tour option – lasting over an hour and including refreshments – is available, while individuals and smaller groups are welcome anytime to see the cheesemaking at their leisure.

The Cheese Shop at Dewlay is open Monday to Friday 9:30am to 4:30pm and Saturday 9:30am – 1pm but as cheesemaking normally takes place early mornings up to midday on Monday-Friday, weekday morning bookings are advisable for tour groups to appreciate the full experience.

The cheese shop sells the full range of Creamy, Crumbly and Tasty Lancashire as well as Garstang Blue and other cheeses produced at the dairy. If you’ve never tried Lancashire cheese, or you would like to learn more about the history of Lancashire cheese, then a visit here is simply a must.  The shop also carries other products including some that are actually made using Dewlay Lancashire cheese, including Garstang Blue Sausages and Lancashire Cheese & Onion Crisps!

Did you know that Traditional Lancashire cheese is the only English cheese that’s made using a multi-day curd recipe? Or that the starter culture used in the cheesemaking process is one that was developed by Dewlay over 40 years ago, so it is truly unique? Dewlay is always keen to let people know about the great story of Lancashire cheese but with the opening of Dewlay’s cheese shop & viewing gallery, visitors will be able to see for themselves the hard work and dedication that goes into Lancashire cheesemaking and learn more about the heritage and provenance that has been passed down through the generations.
