Olympic-Style Wins for “Team Dewlay”

While most eyes are on London and the Olympic Games, “Team Dewlay” got a taste of success with their own Olympic efforts at the Nantwich International Cheese Awards in Cheshire this week.

Often referred to as “The Cheese Olympics”, the 115th year of the Nantwich International Cheese Awards saw a record entry of nearly 4,000 cheeses from all over the world and with 226 separate categories it was clear that competition between the cheeses was going to be intense to say the least! 27 countries in total were represented and a panel of 126 judges were tasked with choosing the very best cheeses.  Dewlay who came to the event with a record 29 major awards from some of the other cheese competitions of 2012 were cautiously optimistic as they waited at their stand for news to filter out on how the family owned dairy was doing.

By lunchtime however they could see that many of their cheeses had been marked as being award winners, and some had been moved to another location where further judging would take place.  First news out was that Dewlay had won 5 Gold medals from a total haul of 15 medals.  The Gold medals were achieved for their Creamy, Crumbly and Tasty Lancashire cheese as well as well earned wins for a Traditional Red Cheshire and Double Gloucester cheese.

Later in the day when all judging was complete, it emerged that the dairy had won three prestigious Trophies.  The Daresbury Cup was won for their Red Cheshire, The CHr Hansen Trophy for a Double Gloucester with the final trophy being won for the best Territorial cheese.  The 15 medals along with the three trophy wins cemented Dewlay’s reputation in the industry for producing the very best range of Lancashire cheese as well as other well known Territorials.
