Lancashire success at global cheese awards

Cheesemakers of Garstang pick up more awards on a global scale.

The Global Cheese Awards proved a great success for the Cheesemakers of Garstang as awards were collected for its Real Lancashire cheese.

Scooping gold for its Creamy Lancashire cheese, Dewlay were also awarded silver for their Tasty Lancashire and bronze for Crumbly Lancashire.

Held on 10th September as part of Frome Agricultural and Cheese Show, the Global Cheese Awards saw entries from across the UK and overseas, and marks the end of the cheese show season.

“We have had a great year for our Lancashire cheese. At each major show we have come away with top awards, proving that our Lancashire cheese is of a consistent high quality,” comments Ian Coggin, sales director.

“While being recognised by our peers for producing outstanding cheese, we are also keen to ensure that Lancashire cheese on the market and winning at these shows is produced in Lancashire in order to maintain this product’s great heritage,” adds Ian.

While the show season has now ended the cheese industry is gearing up for two final events, the British Cheese Awards and the World Cheese Awards, where Dewlay hope to see more recognition coming its way for its Real Lancashire cheese.
