Dewlay the Cheesemaker of Garstang rises to victory at the Great Yorkshire Show.
The Cheesemakers of Garstang stormed the Yorkshire show field of Harrogate to be claimed king of the Lancashire cheese after scooping gold for its Crumbly Lancashire at the Great Yorkshire Show.
As well as triumphing over the Crumbly Lancashire class, The Cheesemakers of Garstang also collected silver for its Crumbly Lancashire and its Tasty Lancashire. Production director Richard Kenyon; who was present at the show, was overjoyed with the accolades.
“It’s always a proud moment to win an award for our cheese as we put our heart and soul into making it,” said Richard.
“Our Crumbly Lancashire is a fresh, zesty cheese and is perfect crumbled over a salad or with warm apple pie.”
The Great Yorkshire Show, held from 12th – 14th July at Harrogate show field saw almost 1000 cheese entries from across the globe. On top of winning awards for its great tasting Lancashire cheeses, The Cheesemakers of Garstang also collected the trophy for Best Dressed Cheese in Show.
While the agricultural show may see plenty of sharp suits and elegant dresses, the award for Best Dressed is given to a cheese that stands out head and shoulders above the rest.
Awarded for presentation and appearance, the Best Dressed is highly sought after by cheesemakers as it shows the skill and attention to detail taken to bind and wax the cheese.
“Our cheesemakers put a lot of effort to ensure our cheese looks as good as it tastes, so it is great to be recognised not only as a consistent high quality cheesemaker but also for our high standards when it comes to presentation,” commented Richard.
“But for us, it’s not just about producing a spectacular tasting and looking cheese for a show, it’s being able to emulate that in every cheese we make,” added Richard.
