Dewlay Strikes Gold At Great Yorkshire Show
Dewlay Cheesemakers struck Gold yet again at the Great Yorkshire show cheese awards held in Harrogate, Yorkshire this week. With the weather playing havoc and eventually causing the remainder of the well known show to be cancelled, it was all smiles inside, as Dewlay picked up a coveted Gold medal for one of their most famous cheeses – Tasty Lancashire.
This was the second gold in nearly as many weeks for the 3rd generation family owned dairy who also picked up 5 oher medals for other cheeses made at the dairy including Creamy Lancashire, Crumbly Lancashire, Cheshire and Double Gloucester.
“It’s great to see our Tasty Lancashire continuing to do so well” commented Nick Kenyon, Managing Director, “but to have won other medals across our entire range of cheese is a testament to the hard work done back at the dairy week-in, week- out”. Dewlay’s Tasty Lancashire is made to a traditional multi-day curd recipe, using a starter culture developed over 40 years ago and cartefully matured for up to a year. The result is a full flavoured cheese without being overpowering and a “melt-in-the-mouth” texture.
The Yorkshire show is known for being a very competitive cheese competition with the Lancashire class in particular having a stong presence from all the well-known names.
Dewlay, who were also exhibiting at the show were keen to get the message out to the public of the win, and the award winning cheese is currently on-show in their cheese shop & viewing gallery adjacent to the dairy in Garstang.
“We are delighted with the awards won so far this year, in fact we’ve won over 20 awards and medals over the first three major shows of the year, and this gives us huge momentum as we drive our business forward” concludes Nick.
