Award success for Dewlay cheesemakers

Dewlay the Cheesemakers of Garstang capture gold at the Bath and West Show.

Gold, silver and bronze awards were the order of the day for Dewlay the Cheesemakers of Garstang at this year’s Royal Bath and West show [1st-4th June].Kick starting the 2011 award season, over 850 cheeses from UK producers were entered into the show held in Somerset, however Dewlay reigned supreme over the territorial classes collecting gold for its Creamy Lancashire and Crumbly Lancashire, as well as silver for its Tasty Lancashire cheese.

“Winning top awards at the National Cheese Awards at the Bath and West is something I am very proud of,” comments Richard Kenyon, production director who attended the Bath and West Show.

“It is a testament to the hard work of our cheesemakers. But winning top awards year on year is also a sign that we strive to produce the highest quality Lancashire cheese in the market,” he adds.

Beating stiff competition to scoop gold and silver in the Creamy Lancashire class as well as gold and silver in the Crumbly Lancashire class, Dewlay’s Tasty Lancashire received a silver award.

Other territorials produced at Dewlay received high accolades at the show with its Double Gloucester and Traditional Red Leicester receiving bronze awards too.

“With the first award show under our belt we are confident that the rest of the show season will see us collect more trophies. But this can only be achieved by producing consistent Lancashire cheese… something we at Dewlay have done since 1957,” adds Richard.
